ABOUT THE COMMISSION |

|
The Planning
Commission consists of nine members that are
appointed by Greenville County Council. The
Department of Planning staffs Greenville County,
including the cities of Fountain Inn,
Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville,
Travelers Rest, the County Transportation
Committee, the Greenville-Pickens Area
Transportation Study (G-PATS) Policy Committee
and the local planning commission.
The goals of the Planning Department are
(1) to maintain the comprehensive land use plans
adopted by the County and municipalities in
Greenville county; and (2) to provide the
transportation services required of Metropolitan
Planning Organizations to maintain funding
eligibility for highway construction projects
(3) and to support the staffs and Planning
Commission in its service areas.
The objective of the Department include:

To conduct community meetings to gain citizen
input into the planning process. |

To
coordinate the planning efforts
of the County with the public
service
providers to develop joint growth
management policies. |

To promote a comprehensive
greenway system |

·
To conduct the transportation
tasks set forth in the approved
United Planning
Work Program |
|
·
To assist the County
Transportation Committee in
maintaining its intersection
Improvement Plan. |

|
·
To involve citizens in the
development of plans. |
|
·
To maintain an Air Quality Plan that will keep
Greenville County in compliance
with EPA and FHWA
requirements. |

·
To expand the zoning
jurisdiction where there is
public support. |
