The transportation planning division prepares and collects data to provide for a safe and efficient transportation plan for the area transportation system.  This division staffs the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the region, the Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study (GPATS).  Staff provides technical support to the GPATS Policy Committee, and coordinates the GPATS Study Team, a group of planners and engineers from the region who develop and refine transportation plans for the region.  Staff also supports to the County Transportation Committee and the Greenville Transit Authority.

The GPATS 2030 Long-Range Transportation Plan has been under development for over a year, and drafts of several elements of the plan are available for review.

The transportation planning division compiles traffic counts, generates reports for rezoning cases and new development, and encourages safe and different ways of moving around in the environment.  The county bike routes report describes 10 different recreational touring routes in the county.
